Frequently Asked Questions

For New Members

How do I join SVNAA?
Go to SVNAA.org and click on Register in the top right-hand corner of the page. You will be prompted to a screen where you provide contact information as well as information about the player or players in your family. If registration is open, you will be taken to a page where you can register for the upcoming season. If registration is not open, your account will allow you to receive emails from the association about upcoming events and season schedules. When registration does open, you will be notified by email.

When is registration?
For Spring baseball and softball seasons, registration may open in January and closes in mid-February, with a late fee added for any registrations after that. For the Fall season, registration usually opens in late July and runs through mid August.

Why am I being asked for an $80 volunteer deposit?
SVNAA would not be the great baseball and softball organization that it is without our family volunteers. To ensure this cooperation continues, we ask each family to contribute four hours of volunteer service during the season. After this is complete, the family will receive an $80 refund. Examples of activities include (a) working at a concession stand for one evening, (b) helping prepare the fields during Field Day, (c) taking part in Picture Day, or (d) helping to plan the end-of-year pool party. Also, head coaches and their first assistants are exempt from the $80 fee.

And the $40 raffle ticket fee?
This is our annual fundraiser. You will receive four tickets worth $10 apiece. You can re-sale these to friends and family or keep them and try to win daily cash prizes during the month of May. The raffle tickets are based on the evening daily number drawing.

When and where are meetings held?
Meetings are held at 7:30 pm on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the ReMax/Core Compliance building along Route 19 in Jackson Township, just south of Zelienople.

Where are games played?
The association has two locations: Zelienople Park/Connequenessing Valley Elementary School in Zelienople and EDCO Park in Evans City. Fields for all levels of play are available in Zelienople. T-ball, Pee Wee baseball, and some softball leagues can play in EDCO.

When are games played?
Games can be played on any day of the week, but usually are not scheduled for Sunday except as rain makeup dates. Times vary for each level of play, but the earliest games start on weeknights is usually around 5:30 pm.

For Head Coaches

When or how do I decide to cancel a game because of rain?
If there is ponding on the infield surface or if the ground is so soft that a noticeable footprint is left on the infield dirt, a game should be delayed or postponed. Sometimes, with strong sunlight and warm temperatures, a field will dry out within an hour. In any case, coaches should contact each other at least one hour before game time to discuss conditions and decide if a game is going to be cancelled. This gives each head coach enough time to notify parents.

What is the best way to notify parents?
Before the games begin, ask parents if it is okay to send them text messages about game delays or cancellations. This often works well for reaching a large group of people on short notice.

Are there any guides about field maintenance?
Yes, please check out this handy document about field prep and field conditions: https://dt5602vnjxv0c.cloudfront.net/portals/5226/docs/svnaa_field_maint_techniques.pdf

Where can I find the rules and regulations about my league?
Go to http://www.svnaa.org/Default.aspx?tabid=420784 for Baseball and http://www.svnaa.org/Default.aspx?tabid=420785 for Softball and click on the hyperlinked "More Info" text next to your league. This should take you to a page where you can access the rules and regulations regarding your league. If you have additional questions, ask your league commissioner or email the association at [email protected].

What do I do if a player is injured?
Definitely bring the player's parent or parents out to better assess the situation. There should be first aid kits in each equipment bin. Extras are usually located in nearby concession stands. For minor injuries, treat with first aid. If you and the parents feel it is more serious, call 911 or let the parents transport their child to a medical facility. All injuries should be reported to the SVNAA board of directors for insurance purposes. Again, email [email protected] to reach a board member.

I heard I have access to a team page on the website. Where is that and how do I access it?
Each team has a team page that a coach can choose to utilize if he or she wants to. Log-in to svnaa.org and go to Team Central. On the drop-down menu, select Team Directory. Find your team on this list and click on Team Home. As the head coach, you should be able to edit the content, upload photos, and find contact information about your team on this site.

Should I have a snack schedule for the end of each game?
Snacks and/or drinks at the end of each game are up to each coach. Please be aware of food allergies. Your league commissioner should have provided you with a contact sheet that contained any information about players on your team with food allergies. Ask the parents as well as they may have failed to note it on their registration form.
