10 & Younger Fast Pitch

This league is for girls ages 10 and younger who are interested in playing fast pitch softball.

Offered for kids ages 9-10, the primary goal of the 10U League is to transition from a coach-controlled environment to one that resembles an actual competitive game, while still maintaining the major goal of learning, developing, and having FUN. This is the biggest transition your child will make throughout their softball career because it introduces them to seeing actual live pitching from other kids as well as throwing pitches themselves. It is also a very big transition for YOU, the parent, because, although your child may have been a great hitter throughout the instructional level, they may struggle a bit at adapting to other kids throwing the ball. Our advice is to just be patient, and for that brief moment they're in the batter's box or on the pitchers mound ... take your parent hat off and just be a fan.

At the 10U level, we are introducing player pitchers.   The pitchers are still working on mechanics and control and not speed. The rules at this age allow a coach to pitch to his team (that is batting) after a pitcher pitches 4 balls. The count restarts so the hitter is not at a disadvantage. This is still a developmental stage of the game.

The SVNAA fast pitch teams participate in the Greater Pittsburgh Girls Softball League (GPGSL).  The GPGSL brings together girls softball teams from athletic associations throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. The GPGSL tries to group together teams of similar geographic areas to schedule regular season games.

The starting and ending dates for Spring fast pitch softball games varies per age division but normally runs from the last week of April to the 3rd week of June. There is a meeting held in early March where the schedule is made. In the Spring, the fast pitch regular season games are typically scheduled Monday through Thursday and only infrequently on weekends (usually make-up games).  Qualifying teams participate in the GPGSL playoffs that follow the conclusion of the Spring regular season.

The team’s practices and home games will be conducted at a SVNAA field designated for that age division. The team’s away games will be played at GPGSL member teams' fields.  This will require some travel within the northern portion of Pittsburgh, usually Ambridge, Butler, Cranberry, and Mars areas.
